The BcGSA facilitates departmental funding for both student developed independent scientific research performed with an undergraduate mentee as well as travel to scientific conferences, professional development opportunities, or workshops.
BcGSA Travel Grants ($500)
The purpose of these awards is to provide financial support for graduate students in Biochemistry labs to attend conferences or workshops where they will have the opportunity to present research, develop professional relationships, and gain knowledge from colleagues in their respective fields. Both doctoral and master students within the Biochemistry Department or from other programs that work for a Biochemistry faculty advisor and are Active Members of the BcGSA can apply for travel grants if they have not graduated by the time of the conference. Funds are awarded for travel during specific dates, determined by the application cycle each year. Ten Travel Awards will be awarded annually. When the funding cycles open, they will be announced by the Professional Committee Chairs and published via this website, our calendar, BcGSA Slack, and a department email. BcGSA members may also access details regarding current application deadlines and instructions on the BcGSA Google Shared Drive. For access, please contact the BcGSA Secretary.
BcGSA Mentoring Fellowships ($1000)
This Fellowship program is designed to support a deserving graduate student and promote their development as a mentor. The goal is to empower the graduate student to develop a research project with an undergraduate researcher who is already doing research in the lab, and mentor this undergraduate student throughout the duration of their project. Both doctoral and master students, who have a permanent lab position and project within the Biochemistry Department and are Active Members of BcGSA can apply for this Fellowship. Two Mentoring Fellowships will be awarded annually. When the funding cycles open, they will be announced by the Professional Committee Chairs and published via this website, our calendar, BcGSA Slack, and a department email.
